I’m A Volvo Driving Soccer Dad – Seriously
August 28th, 2009
Being a single parent to a pair of 5 year old twin boys isn’t close to being a leisurely walk in a park. Especially so seeing that its little league soccer season all over again. This time yours truly will be the main honcho for getting the jerseys done.
Being one of only three male parents among 13 women in our team’s committee, it was a bit of a struggle to persuade most of them to agree not to change the team’s jersey color from red to a color I’ve only seen on abstract paintings. But try as we might, we failed to change the team moniker to The Red Wizards from The Red Flamingos.
After searching for team jerseys, and believe it or not – sponsors, I noticed that our soccer team did not even have its own logo. I brought up this matter with the other 2 dads and we concluded that it might be a a superb idea if we could have our very own soccer team symbol. So we decided to design a team logo each and exhibit them to the committee.
The three of us congregated the next weekend with our works of art and ended up having a laugh at ourselves, before we agreed that there could be a slight chance that we weren’t cut out to be designers. Evidently my Flamingo looked like a Woodpecker on performance enhancing substances. The overly hyped designs from the other two weren’t that much better. One can potentially be mistaken for a work by Picasso and the other looked like bored doodlings from a ill-fated victim of a 4 hour long department meeting. But we went along and displayed the designs to the committee nonetheless.
Though the committee unanimously barred the 3 of us from designing anything for the club unless there is a blue moon, they did agree to the idea that our little league team should probably have its very own logo. So I delightedly went home and conducted a search for logo design tanzania, did some checking and picked a couple of design firms and suggested them to the committee.
Now we are excited to say that our soccer team has, after all this time, got its very own original logo. We had logo patches made for the team jerseys and logo stickers produced for the fun of it – thanks to a bit of sponsorship we got from the ice cream shop we always take the kids to after a game. The logo design itself appears extremely cool with a an unmistakeably red Flamingo standing on one leg and the other casually resting on a soccer ball looking like the real deal.
There’s a rumor going around that next year yours truly will be in charge of liquid refreshments or more commonly known as water. I’m considering taking it a notch higher and am in the process of getting the paperwork done to present to Gatorade about a sponsorship agreement.
